   польск. режиссёр. В 1935 окончил Школу изобразит, иск-в (Познань). Работал в т-ре художником и режиссёром. В годы 2-й мировой войны был вывезен на принудит. работы в Германию. В кино с 1947. Наиболее значит. ф. связаны с изображением судьбы личности в период войны ("Дом на пустыре", 1950, "Часы надежды", 1955, "Сегодня ночью погибнет город", 1961, "Польский альбом", 1970). Экранизировал произв. нац. лит-ры ("Никодем Дызма" по Т. Доленге-Мостовичу, 1956, в сов. прокате "Необыкновенная карьера"; "Мужики" по В. Реймонту, 1972, т/ф, киновариант 1973; "Дульские" по Г. Запольской, 1976; "Граница" по З. Налковской, 1978). Гос. пр. ПНР (1951, 1952, 1955, 1959).
