(р. 28.6.1926)
   амер. режиссёр, сценарист, актёр. Со 2-й пол. 40-х гг. работал в кабаре, т-ре и на ТВ. В кино с 1954 как сценарист. Первая постановка - сатира на голливудские нравы "Продюсеры" (1968, пр. "Оскар" за сценарий). Получил известность серией пародий на популярные жанры - вестерн ("Горящие сёдла", 1974), "ф. ужасов" ("Молодой Франкенштейн", 1974), "комическую" ("Немое кино", 1976), детектив ("Страх высоты", 1977), псевдоисторич. ф. ("История мира. Ч. 1", 1981). Автор сц. всех своих ф., в нек-рых играл гл. роли.
