   амер. актёр. С 1957 выступал на сцене и ТВ. В кино с 1964. Стал популярным на рубеже 60 - 70-х гг. в ролях молодых, напористых, зачастую циничных, но неизменно привлекат. героев таких ф., как "Боб и Кэрол и Тэд и Элис" (1969, реж. П. Мазурский), "Выбор пути" (1970). Особую известность ему принесла роль хирурга в антимилитаристской комедии "М. A. S. Н." (1970, реж. Р. Олтмен). Своеобразный антиконформизм Г. отвечал обществ, потребности в обновлении типа героя на амер. экране, что позволило актёру закрепить свой успех в ф. "Маленькие убийцы" и "Прикосновение" (реж. И. Бергман, Швеция - Великобритания) - оба 1971, "Долгое прощание" (1973) и "Калифорнийский покер" (1974) - оба реж. Р. Олтмена, "Гарри и Уолтер следуют в Нью-Йорк (1976), "Козерог-1" (1977) и ряде др. В 1981 снялся в фильме "Дьявол и Макс Девлин".
