   амер. актриса. Сестра киноактёра У. Битти. С 1950 выступала в Нью-Йорке как танцовщица в мьюзиклах и на ТВ. В кино с 1955 (ф. "Неприятности с Гарри", реж. А. Хичкок). Снималась в муз. ф. и комедиях "Канкан" (1960), "Моя гейша" (1961), "Нежная Ирма" (1963). В ф. "Некоторым пришлось бежать" ("Как поток", 1958, реж. В. Миннелли), "Квартира" (1960, реж. Б. Уайлдер, пр. Мкф в Венеции), "Детский час" (реж. У. Уайлер) и "Двое на качелях" (1962) создала психологически сложные драм, образы. Особый успех принесло ей исполнение гл. роли в ф. "Милая Чарити" (1968, реж. и хореограф Б. Фосс), в к-рой во всей полноте раскрылось её актёрское дарование, вокальное и танц. мастерство. В 1979 снялась в ф. "Будучи там" (реж. X. Эшби), в 1984 - в ф. "Слова нежности" (пр. "Оскар"). В 1974 сняла с К. Уэйл док. ф. "Другая половина неба: китайские воспоминания".
   Среди др. ф.: "Карьера", "Спроси любую девушку" (пр. Мкф в Зап. Берлине. 1959), "Всей работы на одну ночь", "Жёлтый роллс-ройс" (Великобритания), "Гамбит", "Семь раз женщина", "Два мула для сестры Сары", "Отчаявшиеся люди" (пр. Мкф в Зап. Берлине, 1971). "Поворотный пункт".
